#1 Most Asked Question
Great question. Solving this took over a year, hundreds of engineering hours, and yielded several patents. The device anchors with a patented mechanism that allows anyone to properly install it. It can only be removed by the owner by pressing a button in their mobile app.
Beyond the anchoring, the Deterrent capabilities respond dynamically to human motion. Said simply, it only chirps at 120dB and flashes red lights when a human looks in your car. This is unsettling and causes would-be thieves to keep moving. Prowlers have no idea how it detects them (radar) and the chirp is loud AF. The ADT/Ford device emits 100dBs. Literally 100 times quieter than our device (logarithmic scale ftw).
And it has GPS and live video. So the thief that is attempting to remove it is being recorded and streamed. In places that have a police force, perhaps the police are on the way. In rural areas, you get the video to your phone and can take care of it as you see fit.
Ultimately, if Kim Jong/CIA/FBI want your car they will just tow it and there is nothing you can do. Cars are mobile by design. But unless those guys are after you, we got you.
The OBD-II Port is a standard plug in all vehicles since 1996 that is frequently used by mechanics and technicians. It is located under your steering wheel and allows the Keep Device to stay powered even when your car is off.
It will not kill your car battery. We take car battery charge levels very seriously, as we can’t work properly if we don’t. We track the car battery voltage level and will enter the lower powered “Alarm only” state if the car hasn’t been driven in 2 days or if the car has a low battery voltage level.
We use Kore Wireless, who bought the IOT (internet of things) business from Twilio. The advantage of this is that we can seamlessly switch between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, rather than being locked into one network. Our device will connect to the tower and carrier with the best signal.
The device contains two rechargeable NiMH batteries, totalling 2,000 mAh. If the device is unplugged, it will record and transmit video just as it was before. It will also transmit GPS location information. The one difference in operation is that the sirens are no longer activated because they drain too much energy from the batteries.
No problem if you are already using your OBD port. Here is a 2 way splitter used by many of our customers: https://www.amazon.com/bbfly-B6-Splitter-Extension-Female-Adapter/dp/B071L8W7Q7
OEM car alarms, the ones that come installed with new vehicles, are laughably bad. The vast majority do not automatically arm and they are based upon doors being opened. To circumvent, just break a window if locked or open the door if unlocked. That's the reason car theft & car breakins are a $10B/year industry.
Most car theft deterrents take a narrow approach and provide partial solutions. For instance, a wheel lock protects against car theft but does little to deter a break-in. Our Keep Vehicle Monitoring System is designed to be the only solution you’ll ever need to keep your car safe. With 22 issued utility patents, our Keep Device is the first device to deter, monitor, alarm, notify, and track.
The Keep Device arms automatically when your fob or phone move out of close proximity - about twenty feet away.
Our device is designed to prevent removal from the vehicle. With a patented design that anchors into your cup holder, the Keep Device installs easily but only comes out when you decide. Once the device locks in, it can only be released through the app. And with an alarm that rivals the volume of an ambulance, a thief won’t last long inside of your vehicle.
While a dashcam can monitor activity in your vehicle and even notify you of activity, it can easily be discarded from your vehicle. A thief only needs to keep their face covered for a few seconds before tossing a dashcam out the window. And without an alarm function, an intruder has ample time to discard. The Keep Device anchors into the cupholder and sounds an alarm that encourages thieves to move on to the next vehicle.
While most after-market car alarms require complicated wiring installations, the Keep Vehicle Monitoring System is designed for you to install it. Just plug the Keep Device into the OBD port, place it in your cup holder, and twist clockwise until the device locks in. Download the Keep App to activate your Monitoring Plan and you're all set.
The device connects to your OBD-II (on board diagnostics) port that is standard in all vehicles since 1996. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/obd-ii-port-used/ We utilize pin 16 which is power from the car battery and a ground pin.
The OBD port is not hard to find or connect to at all. It is accessed annually in states that have emissions tests and normally resides by the driver’s feet either on the left or right side.
Yes, we have volume discounts. Email info at keep dot tech for information.
If someone peeks in a back window or lifts a rear hatch, there is a good chance that our sensors will not detect them. The radar and heat sensors can be blocked by the dense seat material. In most break-ins, thieves explore the front of vehicles, specifically the center console and glove box. Car thefts, obviously, require someone to sit in the driver’s seat.

The industrial design of the device is such that it contains a cupholder in the top portion of the device. It can hold cans, regular sized mugs and Starbucks cups. It will likely not fit your Big Gulp.
The device detects crooks outside of the car peering in the windows (tint is not a problem) by using an internal radar. It detects crooks entering the car through the use of heat sensors.
Yes, it does have a camera. It has a 1080p camera that has been specially tuned for its unique position in a car: facing upwards with direct sun behind the subject during the day and low light conditions at night. It does not use an IR camera for night vision as the car windows block the IR and nothing can be seen outside of them.
Yes, it does take video. The video is in 1080p.
Yes it can. A hammer doesn’t do much damage. A better bet is a drill or flamethrower to melt it. And smile, because you will be on camera with your GPS coordinates recorded while you play with the device.
Plan includes: 4G LTE connectivity, secure cloud storage, real-time alerts, HD video & pictures, over-the-air updates, remote arm & disarm. You will create the subscription through the mobile app after you receive your device.
You can run a power cable directly to your car battery, if you like. We just need 12V to run the device and charge our internal batteries while you drive. Our OBD cable only utilizes power and ground so it can be easily cut open and spliced. This is something some of our customers have done with these components (and cable connectors):https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Terminal-Connectors-Disconnect-Compatible/dp/B09GLVT5H2https://www.amazon.com/GearIT-Gauge-Each-Copper-Aluminum/dp/B09ND1LTM5?th=1
The device can function for hours on its own internal batteries. It will vary depending on how often you drive your car; we only charge the internal batteries while you are driving.
It does not work without the service plan. There is no way for the pictures and video to be transmitted without the cellular connection.
Any individual who approaches the vehicle without a Keep fob or authenticated mobile device will be warned with a loud chirp and an aggressive flashing red light. Should this individual proceed to enter the vehicle through a door or window, an alarm of 120 decibels will sound. The device utilizes radar that emits through the windows (tint is not a problem) to sense motion outside of the vehicle.
Should a thief dare to drive with the 120-decibel alarm sounding, the device will also notify the user via our Keep app. Simultaneously, our 24-hour monitoring center will notify the police and track the device's location via GPS.
The Keep Device is equipped with a 360-degree fisheye camera that will automatically record when the alarm is triggered. This footage is saved in the cloud and can be shared with the police to help apprehend the individual who stole your belongings.
Yes, the Keep Device can be placed in "Valet Mode" for occasions where someone else might need to drive your vehicle.
The Keep mobile app alerts you of any unauthorized user entering your vehicle. It also displays near real-time video of the event. The device also monitors and scores a driver's behaviors, tracking speed, hard braking, distracted driving, and trip routes.
The Keep Device records trip data for each family member. With the Keep App, you can see location, route, and unsafe events like speeding, hard braking, and distracted driving. The App even gives you a score for each individual trip to help encourage your family to drive safely.
You can power the Keep Device by connecting directly to your car battery, from a battery pack, or outlet using a 5.5x2.1 mm barrel jack cable. Using the supplied OBD cable is the preferred method of powering the Device.
We offer a 1 year warranty on defects and craftsmanship. There is a full money back guarantee on the product and service, so it can be cancelled at any time.
Yes, just let us email support at keep dot tech. Extra fobs are $10.
Our device does have a SIM but don’t worry: you don’t need to manage it! We oversee the cellular connection and network.
It can get very hot and it will not damage the components. The device can endure temperatures in the 185F range without a problem. It will go into an overheated state at roughly 122F to protect itself, similar to a smartphone encountering high temperature conditions.
The device resides in circular shaped cupholders. It can anchor in sturdy cupholders or simply rest in non-sturdy clip-type holders. It can also reside in odd shaped cupholders. Shims can be used so that when the legs are at their own maximum length, they will reach the cupholder wall with the supporting shim.
The way that the device detects the owner is through the presence of a fob that you attach to your keys or through the presence of your mobile phone.
The device costs $299 with $10/month for the subscription.
The pictures are automatically sent to your mobile app. If enabled, you will first receive a notification.
The videos are automatically sent to your mobile app. If enabled, you will first receive a notification.
Whether our device is in your car or not, we recommend you keep your car on a trickle charger if you don’t drive it often. If you leave your car at the airport for a month and try to start it, it is highly likely that the battery will be dead, as your car has what is called “parasitic load”, which is energy used for the vehicle electrical systems, even when the car is off. This can be in the 75-100mA range. Given enough time, any modern car will lose enough power to start the vehicle.
